The Meteors - Hymns For The Hellbound
If you dig psychobilly, you know The Meteors. Almost thirty years and thirty albums of rocking psychobilly makes them one of the most important bands of this small but interesting scene. I recently already reviewed frontman P Paul Fenech's latest solo album which I really dug, and these Hymns For The Hellbound are no exception either.
Further than that particular P Paul Fenech solo album I don’t really know anything about The Meteors, so I can’t really make any comparisons to other material unfortunately. But I guess being a scene’s leader for thirty years doesn’t come for nothing.
The trio still sounds like they’re in good shape and haven’t lost their touch for songwriting. The albums varies between faster songs about partying, drinking and getting yourself into a girl’s pants, to slower darker songs that are suitable for play around a couple of minutes before closing time in a bar. To let the real drunks feel a little extra depressed and reach for the bottle the next morning. We’ve all been there, haven’t we…? So we have some spaced out guitars, a slapping stand-up bass with a lot of boogies, a vocalist that sounds like he’s a real dirtbag that can out-drink all of your uncle’s and a hidden track that’s basically an ode to roadies. Sounds good to ya?
Fans can buy this blindly, people starting to get into the genre (like myself) get a good start on what to expect. Feel like chilling with some space-out alcohol-drenched rocking psychobilly any time soon? Here are your hypnotizing Hymns For The Hellbound.
